Filling Large Voids In Wood With Epoxy
Olivia Luz
Timy mac the maker apprentice herei never used epoxy so i need some guidance.
Be sure to fill to the top or slightly over the top of the holes. Sometimes it can take a few minutes for the epoxy to seep into all the little cracks and voids inside the larger area which may require you to add more so that the level stays slightly above the surface. Should i rough cut to finished size and then epoxy the voids or go ahead and fill the voids and then rough cut. I wouldn t fill voids too deeply with a single pour.
They have a few voids pest damage ect but nothing that goes all the way through the stock. Once your epoxy is mixed well slowly pour the epoxy in the void area until it is slightly over filled. In this video we demonstrate a method for filling voids in wood using tinted epoxy. This is because most epoxy products have a fast cure time i used 30min 1hr epoxy and will not allow you the time to prep your work area after the epoxy is mixed together.
Also i show you the best epoxy for filling wood voids knots and cracks. Wait several minutes to insure that the epoxy does not lower below the surface. If the void is large enough that it s important to have the fill very clear hot glue on a piece of wood or plywood underneath to stop the leakage. In woodworking epoxy holds a number of uses beyond its adhesive qualities.
